Religious clerics vital in fight against drug menace: Div Com Kashmir
Srinagar, Jan 3, KNT: The Divisional Commissioner Kashmir on Saturday stressed the need for greater involvement of religious clerics in the ongoing campaign against drug addiction, saying their role is crucial in addressing the growing menace affecting society.
Talking to reporters, the Divisional Commissioner said that religious clerics are already part of the anti-drug campaign, but there is a pressing need to intensify their participation to reach deeper into communities. He said clerics have a strong influence at the grassroots level and can play an effective role in spreading awareness about the dangers of drug abuse.
He expressed serious concern over recent data, stating that figures from the past three years indicate a threefold increase in drug addiction cases across the region. The Divisional Commissioner described the trend as a warning signal for society and called for urgent collective action.
He said that an increasing number of youth, including educated young people, have become prey to drug addiction, which poses a serious threat to families and the social fabric. He emphasised that addressing the issue requires coordinated efforts involving the administration, law enforcement agencies, educational institutions and community leaders.
The Divisional Commissioner said the administration is strengthening its anti-drug initiatives, but lasting results can only be achieved with active public participation and moral guidance at the community level. [KNT]
