Recruitment Begins at Kashmir University, But Major Gaps Persist, Stakeholders Demand Action on Long-Ignored Positions
Srinagar, Nov 29, KNT: Kashmir University has advertised several senior and technical posts following sustained public scrutiny over large-scale vacancies at the institution, but dozens of important positions remain unfilled, raising concerns that the recruitment effort is only partial and delayed.
The university has advertised posts for Controller of Examinations and Additional Controller of Examinations. It has also invited applications for five Director-level posts including Director South Campus, Director Convocation Complex, Director Zakura Campus, Director Physical Education and Director DIQA.
In addition, posts of Curator Zoology Museum, Museum Assistant and Landscape Development Officer have also been advertised.
However, insiders and stakeholders told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that, a significant number of key positions are still lying vacant, with no advertisements issued for many roles that were earlier highlighted as vacant.
Mass Communication passout graduates pointed out that the post of Public Relations Officer at Kashmir University has remained vacant for nearly two decades. The earlier PRO was terminated on corruption charges in 2006 and the position has not been filled since. Similarly, the PRO post at the Convocation Complex has been vacant for the past three years.
Several other senior posts remain unadvertised. These include Director EMMRC, Director Kupwara Campus, and Director IT and Support Services.
Earlier, Kashmir News Trust had reported widespread vacancies across Kashmir University, including administrative, academic and technical positions that were affecting teaching, examinations, research and campus administration.
The earlier report disclosed that multiple Director-level positions, deputy positions, registrar-level posts, engineering staff, library staff and technical assistants were missing across main and satellite campuses. It also highlighted that around 200 employees were nearing retirement, deepening fears of administrative collapse if recruitment was not expedited.
Following that report, university authorities began advertising several posts, marking the first large recruitment push in years for some positions.
Stakeholders said while the partial recruitment drive shows movement, the absence of advertisements for key posts undermines confidence in reform. Academic staff said administrative stagnation cannot be corrected unless all vacant positions are filled transparently and on priority.
Mass
graduates described the absence of a PRO as damaging to the university’s public interface. “For a university of this size, not having a PRO for close to twenty years is shocking,” one students said. [KNT]
