Rainfall, risk of flash flood and travel alerts as weather advisory issued for valley
Srinagar, Sep 03 (NVI) : The Met Centre Srinagar has issued a weather advisory in wake of significant rainfall received during the recent past and also the forecast conditions.
The advisory reports recent rainfall measurements and outlines a forecast of generally cloudy weather with light to moderate rain and thunderstorms through September 3, with improvement afterwards. Additionally, there is a chance of flash floods, landslides, and hailstorms, and as such, it has requested all trekkers and tourists and locals to plan their activities carefully and stay informed.
The advisory, which is with News Vibes of India—(NVI), reads recent rainfall as follows: Kathua AWS: 91.5 mm, Kathua: 66.6 mm, Udhampur: 65 mm, Bhaderwah: 44.2 mm and Kukernag: 24.6 mm.
Regarding the forecast, it is mentioned that from September 3, generally cloudy weather with light to moderate rain and thunderstorms is expected at many locations till late afternoon, with improvement in the weather gradual thereafter.
On September 4-5, the weather is expected to be generally dry with isolated brief showers. From September 6-7, light to moderate rain at scattered locations; and from September 8-15, generally dry weather is expected with brief showers at isolated places.
The advisory also highlighted the following peril messages: frequent heavy rains, which may cause flash floods, landslides, mudslides, or falling rocks at danger-prone areas; and gusty winds and isolated hailstorms at certain places.
In view of this, the advisory urges trekkers, tourists, and local commuters to draw up their plans accordingly, keeping themselves updated with the prevailing weather conditions so as not to compromise on safety. Residents and visitors are called upon to be vigilant and take precautions that would mitigate the impacts of inclement weather.—(NVI)
