Prolonged JKPSC recruitment process raises concern among lecturer aspirants
Srinagar, Dec 29, KNT: Aspirants for the 10+2 Lecturer posts under the Jammu and Kashmir School Education Department have urged the authorities to expedite the interview process, citing prolonged delays that have left hundreds of candidates in uncertainty and adversely impacted the education sector.
The aspirants said that the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission had conducted the written examination for 590 lecturer posts across 28 subjects and subsequently released the result lists. However, they alleged that the recruitment process has remained stalled thereafter, causing distress among candidates who have been awaiting final selection for years despite meeting all eligibility criteria.
According to the aspirants, the continued delay has resulted in significant mental stress and disrupted long term career planning. They further stated that the shortage of lecturers at the higher secondary level is directly affecting academic standards in government schools, particularly in science, arts and commerce streams, where subject specific faculty is crucial.
The aspirants expressed hope that the entire recruitment exercise would be completed before the reopening of schools after winter vacations, stressing that timely appointments are essential to ensure uninterrupted teaching and academic stability for students.
They also appealed to the Lieutenant Governor’s administration to address operational constraints within JKPSC by appointing additional members. Aspirants pointed out that three posts of members in the commission are presently vacant, which has limited the commission’s capacity to conduct interviews. They said that filling these vacancies would allow the formation of multiple interview panels and significantly speed up the selection process.
In addition, the aspirants requested the Chairman of JKPSC to accord priority to the matter and ensure that interviews are conducted without further delay, asserting that early completion of the recruitment process is in the larger interest of students, government schools and unemployed youth across Jammu and Kashmir.
“We acknowledge that the interview process was delayed due to manpower constraints within the Commission. However, necessary steps are being taken to address the shortage, and the recruitment process will be expedited shortly to ensure timely completion,” a JKPSC official told KNT.
