Prayers Barred at Jama Masjid on Laila-tul-Qadr, Mirwaiz Calls It Regrettable

Srinagar, Mar 27: Authorities have conveyed to the Auqaf that the historic Jama Masjid Srinagar will remain closed for prayers on the revered night of Laila-tul-Qadr, Mirwaiz informed on X.

Muslims, who traditionally gather at the mosque on this night for supplication and seeking forgiveness.

Condemning the move, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq expressed deep grief, calling it extremely regrettable and insensitive. He stated that barring thousands of Muslims from worship on this spiritually significant night has caused immense dismay.

“Preventing people from offering prayers at Jama Masjid on this holy night is deeply painful,” Mirwaiz said in a post on X.

“Conveyed to Auqaf by authorities, that on the highly revered night of LailaTul Qadr when Muslims around the world supplicate and seek Allah’s forgiveness throughout the holy and blessed night, central #JamaMasjid Srinagar will be closed to the people and no shab or prayers will be allowed there. It is extremely regrettable and condemnable that the insensitivity of those in power will deprive tens of thousands of Muslims who for generations visit Jama Masjid on this night, of spiritual solace and worship, causing them and me great grief and dismay. #ShabeQadr” Mirwaiz posted on X.
