Power Outages in Multiple Areas of Kashmir as PDD Workers Go on Strike
Srinagar, Jan 29, KNT: Large parts of the Kashmir Valley, particularly Srinagar, faced power outages on Wednesday due to a one-day strike by permanent and temporary daily wage workers of the Power Development Department (PDD). Both metered and non-metered areas were affected, causing widespread inconvenience to residents.
Shabir Ahmad, President of the Jammu and Kashmir Permanent Daily Wagers and Temporary Daily Wagers (JKPDL/TDL), confirmed to the news agency Kashmir News Trust that the disruption was a result of their strike. He said the protest was aimed at pressing for the long-pending demand for regularization of their services.
“Many employees have been working for years on meager wages without being regularized. This strike is to highlight our grievances,” he said, adding that power supply is expected to be restored by evening. [KNT]
