Police arrest notorious bike lifter in Sopore, recover 13 stolen vehicles

Urge buyers, landlords to verify credentials of sellers, tenants respectively

Sopore, Oct 28 (KNO): Police on Saturday said they arrested a notorious bike lifter in Sopore town of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district which led to the recovery of 13 stolen bikes and the solving of six theft cases.

Addressing the media at Police Station Sopore, Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Dr Raies Ahmed Mir, according to news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said that a special team, led by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shabir Nawab, successfully apprehended the notorious bike lifter, Baber Bashir Palla, from Krankshivan Village.

The operation resulted in the recovery of thirteen stolen bikes, SDPO Mir said, adding that more recoveries are anticipated.

With Palla’s arrest, at least six theft cases registered this year are now resolved, the SDPO said.

The police officer urged the buyers to verify the credentials of the sellers thoroughly. “The buyers must check if sellers fulfill all necessary parameters, including documents and selling prices, before purchasing a vehicle,” he said.

Baber Bashir Palla, a resident of Krankshivan Village, had been residing in rental accommodations at various locations across the town, including Muslimpeer and Arampora, Mir said.

The SDPO also appealed to house owners to conduct comprehensive background checks before renting to anyone, saying it is important to ascertain credentials and prevent miscreants involved in social crimes from finding shelter—(KNO)
