Srinagar, Dec 07 (JKNS): The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the establishment of 85 new Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) across India, including 13 in Jammu & Kashmir.
This initiative aims to enhance access to quality education in both urban and rural areas, particularly benefiting students in remote and underserved regions.
As per the details available with the news agency (JKNS), in Jammu & Kashmir, new KVs will be established in districts like Ramban, Kathua, Reasi, Pulwama, Kupwara, and Poonch. These schools will provide world-class educational facilities, especially for the children of transferable Central Government employees and paramilitary forces.
Notably, Ratnipora and Galander in Pulwama district, and Gool in Ramban district, have been earmarked for the new institutions, reinforcing the focus on developing educational infrastructure in the Union Territory.
The details state that the project, with an estimated budget of Rs: 5,872.08 crore, will span eight years starting from 2025-26. “It includes both capital and operational expenditures. Each KV will accommodate around 960 students, with approximately 82,560 students set to benefit nationwide,” the details state.
“In addition to creating employment for 5,388 permanent staff members, the initiative is expected to generate jobs for skilled and unskilled workers during the construction phase. The Kendriya Vidyalayas, widely regarded for their quality education and adherence to the National Education Policy 2020, will also serve as model PM SHRI Schools,” the details added.
It is worth mentioning that this decision underscores the government’s commitment to bridging educational gaps, especially in Jammu & Kashmir, by promoting inclusive and equitable education opportunities.—(JKNS)
