PCB Gains Rs 38 Crore Amid ICC’s Hybrid Model Decision for Champions Trophy”
Srinagar 21/12/2024 (JKNN) The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is set to receive an additional $4.5 million (around Rs 38.2 crore) after agreeing to host the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy under a hybrid model. The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced on Thursday that India would play its matches at a neutral venue, as the BCCI cited security concerns for not traveling to Pakistan.
Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra revealed that the PCB would not face any financial setbacks due to the hybrid model. Instead, the board will be compensated for hosting matches outside Pakistan.
“Pakistan hasn’t lost money or credibility in this arrangement. They’ve accepted the hybrid model but ensured they are adequately rewarded. All India-Pakistan matches will now be played at neutral venues, and Pakistan will do the same for its matches in India,” Chopra stated on his YouTube channel.
While the PCB will incur additional expenses for organizing matches at a third location, the ICC has committed to covering these costs. Chopra, however, noted that the absence of India’s visit to Pakistan could mean a missed economic boost, especially from tourism.
“The financial arrangement is secure for Pakistan, but the real loss lies in the missed tourism opportunities. My personal experience in Pakistan was fantastic; the people are incredibly warm and welcoming,” Chopra added.
The ICC’s hybrid model aims to address geopolitical and security concerns while ensuring fair compensation for the host nation.
