NIA Grants Permission for Jailed J&K MP Engineer Rashid to Take Oath
Srinagar: 01/07/2024 (JKNN) The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has granted permission for Engineer Abdul Rashid Sheikh, popularly known as Engineer Rashid, to take his oath as an MP despite being in Tihar Jail since 2019 on terror-funding charges.
Engineer Rashid, who won the Baramulla seat as an Independent candidate in the recent Lok Sabha elections, awaits a final decision from a Delhi court regarding the conditions of his oath-taking, expected tomorrow.Despite his imprisonment, Engineer Rashid secured a significant victory, defeating former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah by over 200,000 votes.
His legal team, citing his electoral mandate and drawing parallels with other cases, argues for his right to parliamentary participation even while in custody.
