The Historical Significance of Hari Parbat

Hari Parbat, also known as Koh-e-Maran, is one of the most significant landmarks in Srinagar.

The hill is home to the historic Hari Parbat Fort, built during the 18th century under the Afghan ruler Atta Muhammad Khan. The site holds religious and cultural importance for multiple communities, featuring the revered Sharika Devi Temple, Makhdoom Sahib Shrine, and a historic Gurudwara.

The fort itself was initially conceptualized by Emperor Akbar in the 16th century, who planned a massive walled city around it. However, the structure that stands today was completed later during the Afghan rule. From its summit, one can witness a panoramic view of Srinagar, Dal Lake, and the surrounding valley, making it a must-visit for both history lovers and fitness enthusiasts.

Today’s morning walk was not just about physical endurance but also about reconnecting with Kashmir’s heritage. The peaceful surroundings, fresh morning air, and the historical aura of Hari Parbat made the journey a fulfilling experience.
