Massive Fire Breaks Out in Electric Transformer at Gousia Colony, Baba Demb Srinagar , Leaving Residents in Darkness on Eid Eve

Srinagar, 31/03/2025 (JKNN) A massive fire broke out in an electric transformer at Gousia Colony, Baba Demb, near Downtown Gate, Srinagar, plunging the entire area into darkness on the eve of Eid.

According to local residents, the fire erupted suddenly, causing panic in the neighborhood.

Flames and thick smoke were seen rising from the transformer, raising concerns about safety. Residents immediately informed the fire department and the power authorities.

Emergency responders reached the spot and managed to douse the flames before the fire could spread further.

However, the transformer suffered extensive damage, resulting in a complete blackout in the area.

“We are facing immense hardship due to the power outage. This is a festive time, and we request the authorities to restore electricity at the earliest,” said a local resident.

The affected residents have appealed to the Power Development Department (PDD) to take urgent steps to replace the damaged transformer and restore electricity before Eid celebrations begin.
