Srinagar, February 21 ,2025 : (JKNN) A large-scale anti-encroachment drive was conducted in various parts of Srinagar by the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) officials under the supervision of Chief Anti-Encroachment Officer Mohammad Syed.
The drive aimed to clear illegal encroachments obstructing pedestrian movement and traffic flow in key areas of the city.
The operation covered several major locations, including Jehangir Chowk, Hari Singh High Street, Amira Kadal Bridge, Maharaja Bazar, Sarayi Bala, and the vicinity of Lal Chowk Srinagar.
During the drive, unauthorized street vendors and illegally placed structures were removed to ensure smooth pedestrian movement and reduce traffic congestion.
Speaking on the occasion, Mohammad Syed emphasized the importance of maintaining public spaces free from encroachments. He assured that similar drives would continue in the future to safeguard pedestrian safety and ensure an unobstructed traffic system across the city.
The anti-encroachment drive was met with mixed reactions from the public. While many appreciated the efforts of the authorities in clearing the pathways, some affected vendors expressed concerns about their livelihoods.
However, SMC officials reiterated their commitment to providing designated spaces for street vendors while ensuring the smooth movement of traffic and pedestrians.
Authorities have urged citizens to cooperate with the administration and refrain from illegal encroachments to maintain order and cleanliness in the city.
The SMC has also warned of strict action against repeated encroachments in the cleared areas.
