JDU to plead the case of statehood to J&K at Centre: Shaheen

Srinagar, June 7, KNT: Janata Dal United president for Jammu and Kashmir GM Shaheen Friday said that J&K will get statehood after the formation of the NDA Government at Centre.

Addressing a press conference here in Srinagar, Shaheen said that JDU which is an important ally of BJP will plead the case of the statehood for Jammu and Kashmir with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Pertinently, Shaheen addressed the presser after returning from New Delhi where he me top JDU leaders including the chief minister of Bihar Nitesh Kumar.

“I raised the issue of statehood with the Nitesh Kumar during my meeting with him and he assured this will be discussed with the Prime Minister. I hope, and am positive that with the help of the JDU, Jammu and Kashmir will get its statehood back and possibly before the Assembly elections,” Shaheen said.

He said JDU was never in favor of scrapping of statehood to the Jammu and Kashmir and Nitesh Kumar never supported the downdrading of state to Union Territory.

“JDU will forcefully plead the case at the centre and people of Jammu and Kashmir will get the statehood back,” he said adding that it is the right of the people here to have their own elected government and have the statehood back.


Shaheen said that JDU unit of Jammu and Kashmir will apprise the party high command about the issues and grievances being faced by the people of Jammu and Kashmir and he is sure that JDU will represent people of the country and J&K equally at the centre. [KNT]
