15/09/2023: (JKNN) : In a historic event held at SKISC Indoor Stadium Gogji Bagh on September 9th and 10th, 2023, Ubayd Hafiz emerged as the victor, claiming the 4th India Powerlifting J&K Title. Weighing in at 93kg, he showcased incredible strength with a Bench Press of 170kgs, Squats at 230kgs, and a Deadlift of 270kgs, resulting in a total of 670kgs and an impressive 420.46 Points. This remarkable performance secured him the title of the 4th Mr. J&K Powerful Man of the Year 2023.

Shabir Ahmad earned the first Runner-up Title, while Tanjeet Singh secured the Second Runner-up title, surpassing formidable competition. A total of 45 powerlifters from across J&K participated in eight weight categories ranging from under 55 kgs to 120+ kgs, demonstrating their strength through Bench Press, Squats, and Deadlift.

The championship was graced by notable guests, including former MLA Batmaloo Mr. Noor Mohammad as Chief Guest, and Mr. Tariq Bakshi, the owner of Al Ghazali School, Mr. Tahir Kazli, owner of Kazli Constructions, Mr. Salman Bhat, owner of Sky Light Fabrics, and Mr. Mohammad Amin, owner of United Motors, as the Guests of Honor.

The event attracted a diverse audience, including families, children, the elderly, and fitness enthusiasts, all eager to witness this grand powerlifting spectacle. Sub Junior participants Sheikh Ziyaan and Diyaan Kaiser also inspired many children to take an interest in the sport.

Mr. Asif Rashid, the General Secretary of India Powerlifting J&K, emphasized that organizing this event was a significant challenge, given the state of powerlifting in Kashmir. Their primary objective was to ignite a passion for the sport among young players, making this event truly historic.

The overall winners of the championship were generously rewarded with cash prizes of 20,000 rupees, impressive trophies, and category winners received Intex systems, track suits, supplements, shakers, and various other gift items. This event marks a turning point for powerlifting in the region, inspiring future athletes and promoting the sport’s growth.
