Jammu, Sept 24 (KNO): Hours before polling in Jammu & Kashmir, National Conference leader Javed Iqbal Choudhary has written to the Election Commission of India, complaining collusion between local authorities and the BJP candidate Zulfkar Ali in Rajouri district of Jammu province.
In a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner, a copy of which is in with news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the NC leader asserted that he would be compelled to boycott the election on Wednesday and mobilise the party supporters towards the district headquarters if the harassment of NC members is not stopped immediately.
In the letter, Choudhary said that despite the campaign cut-off at 6 PM on September 23, BJP leaders continue their activities without restraint, with outside politicians and religious leaders actively campaigning under the pretext of press conferences.
“Reports of cash and liquor distribution under the guise of security have persisted despite numerous complaints ,” Javed wrote in the letter.
He complained that more than 50 NC election agents have been called for detention at Peeri.
Javed said that SHOs in Rajouri have instructed several local sarpanches, including Shams Din of Panghlar, Kalu Khan of Oudhan, and Muneer Ahmed of Kotercharwal, to sit in police stations until the close of polling.
“More than 50 JKNC workers have been called for detention at Peeri. Seven of my polling agents at Budhal and 3 polling agents at Kandi have been detained to sabotage election polling tomorrow. There are phone calls made to more than 200 JKNC workers to report to the police station immediately till the close of poll,” Javed claimed.
