Srinagar Police achieved a significant breakthrough by arresting two drug peddlers and recovering psychotropic substances during a routine checkpoint operation.
A Police party from Police Station Nigeen, stationed at a checkpoint near Foreshore Road adjacent to Habbak Public Park, intercepted an Alto car (registration number JK01AL-6614). Onboard were Haris Bilal, son of Bilal Ahmed Dar from Ellahibagh, and Sameer Ahmad Bhat, son of Ghulam Ahmad Bhat from Buchpora, Srinagar.
A search of the vehicle revealed 10 grams of charas-like substance and 14 strips (140 tablets) of banned drugs, which were immediately confiscated. Both individuals were arrested on the spot, and the vehicle used in the crime was seized.
An FIR (No.176/2024) has been registered at Police Station Nigeen under relevant legal provisions. Authorities have initiated further investigations to uncover possible links and sources.
The Srinagar Police have urged the public to play an active role in combating drug-related crimes. Citizens are encouraged to report suspicious activities or drug peddling incidents to their nearest police station or by dialing 112. The department has reaffirmed its commitment to taking strict action against individuals involved in drug crimes.
