Government’s Power Privatization Plan Sparks Outrage Among PDD Employees

Government’s Power Privatization Plan Sparks Outrage Among PDD Employees

Srinagar 02/202/2025 (JKNN)/The Jammu & Kashmir Power Employees Coordination Committee (JKPECC) has voiced serious shock and concern regarding the Government’s proposed plan to privatize power distribution at the periphery, without consulting key stakeholders, notably the PDD employees. JKPECC has raised questions about the haste and secrecy surrounding the issue of privatization, despite the commendable performance of KPDCL in reducing losses, increasing revenue, and enhancing billing and collection efficiency.

This move towards privatization is being viewed as a clear violation of democratic and constitutional rights, as well as the principles of natural justice. PDD employees are left in the dark about the challenges they may face if privatization moves forward, with potential risks to their service rights. JKPECC has called for the intervention of the Hon’ble LG, Hon’ble CM, and the respected Chief Secretary of Jammu & Kashmir to engage with all sections of JKPDD employees and address their concerns before advancing any privatization proposals.

Furthermore, JKPECC has advised those holding ranks within PDD and its corporations to refrain from misleading higher authorities by posing as the collective voice of thousands of employees for personal gain. It would be a grave injustice to sacrifice the livelihoods of thousands of PDD workers for the sake of capital interests, especially at a time when field workers are risking their lives in the line of duty.

In light of these concerns, the central executive council of JKPECC, representing various trade unions, has unanimously decided that PDD employees across both regions of Jammu and Kashmir will observe a full day of protest on February 4, 2025, within their respective offices, solely against the privatization proposal.
