Fake computer engineer targeting people in Handwara district arrested
Handwara, Feb 12 (KS) : The Handwara Police in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district have apprehended a man who was posing as a fake computer engineer and targeting people through social media platforms.
An official told News Agency Kashmir Scroll, the accused, identified as Atif Qureshi, had been falsely personifying himself as a computer engineer and exploiting individuals’ fear of leaked data.
The official said that accused initially contacted victims through social media platforms, claiming that their personal data had been compromised. Presenting himself as a helpful professional, he offered to remove their data from the internet for a fee. Unfortunately, some victims, fearful of exposure, fell into the trap and succumbed to his extortion demands.
The official said that a case has been registered against him under relevant sections of the law, and he has been taken into custody.
