ED arrests Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal
Arvind Kejriwal was arrested from his official residence hours after the Delhi High Court refused to entertain his application for interim relief for ‘no coercive steps’ against him by the ED in the excise policy case.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday arrested Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in connection with its probe into money laundering case.
Kejriwal was arrested from his official residence hours after the Delhi High Court refused to pass any orders on his application for “no coercive action” by the ED against him in the excise policy case.
“At this stage, we are not inclined to pass such an order,” the court said. The application for interim relief seeking no coercive action was filed in Kejriwal’s writ petition challenging the summons issued to him in the excise policy case by the ED and the validity of certain provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
AAP leaders alleged that the action was taken to prevent the chief minister to move the Supreme Court after the high court’s decision not to allow him interim relief from coercive action.TIE
