Elderly woman gangraped, killed in Bihar’s Nawada; 4 arrested, 1 still at large
Four people were arrested in Bihar’s Nawada for allegedly raping an elderly woman and thereafter killing her. One of the accused is still at large and police have initiated a manhunt to nab him.
Bihar Police arrested four people for their suspected involvement in the alleged gang rape, mutilation and subsequent murder of an elderly woman in Nawada district, officials said on Sunday.
The suspects have reportedly confessed to their involvement, while a fifth accused remains at large.
The incident came to light when the mutilated body of an elderly woman was discovered on December 26. The discovery prompted swift action from the Nawada Police, leading to the arrest of the four suspects.
Speaking about the incident, SDPO Nawada Ajay Prasad said the victim and her husband had travelled from their residence in Gaya to visit her relatives on December 25.
The elderly couple, using an e-rickshaw from Nawada railway station to reach their destination, faced a horrifying situation when the auto driver abruptly sped away with the elderly woman on board, Prasad said.
“The severity of the crime demanded the deployment of all available resources at the disposal of the Nawada Police. We closely examined the CCTV footage, leading to a breakthrough in the case,” he added.
The official also revealed that bloodstained clothes and the weapon used for both mutilation and murder were recovered during the investigation.
The four arrested accused are currently in police custody and charges against them are being framed accordingly.IT
