New Delhi, Feb 20 (KNC): The Election Commission of India (ECI) has directed Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) of several States and Union Territories, including Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, to expedite preparatory work for the upcoming Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
According to an official communication by ECI, as per news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC, the Commission informed that the Special Intensive Revision exercise is expected to commence from April 2026 in the concerned States and UTs.
The directive follows earlier orders issued on June 24, 2025, mandating SIR across all States and UTs, and subsequent instructions dated July 5, 2025, asking CEOs except Bihar to initiate pre-revision activities.
The Commission had also announced commencement of SIR in 12 States/UTs on October 27, 2025, where the process is currently underway.
In the latest communication, the Commission has urged the Chief Electoral Officers to ensure that all preparatory arrangements are completed at the earliest to facilitate smooth conduct of the revision process.
