J&K/Haryana Assembly polls:

ECI changes date of counting for J&K from Oct 4 to Oct 6,poll date in Haryana from Oct 1 to Oct 5*

Srinagar,Aug 31 (NVI): The Election Commission of India today announced a change in thecounting of votes in Jammu and Kashmir from October 4 to October 6 while the poll date in Haryana was also changed from October 1 to October 5. 

Similarly, the poll date for Haryana that wasearlier fixed on October 1 has also been changed to October 5 in view of festival.

A statementissued by the ECI stated that the Commission had announced the schedule for GeneralElections to the Legislative Assembly of Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana videpress number ECI/PN/128/2024 dated August 16. 2024 where the date of poll forJ&K Phase 3 and Haryana was fixed in October on October 1 (Tuesday) and thedate of counting on October 4 (Friday).

“Thecompletion of election process was fixed for October 6 (Sunday),” the statementsaid.It said thatsubsequently, representations have been received from National Political parties,State party and All India Bishnoi Mahasabha regarding mass movement of peopleof Bishnoi community of Haryana to Rajastahan to participate in centuries oldAsoj Amavasya festival celebrations. “It may deny voting rights to a large numberof people and may lead to reduce voters’ participation in general elections to the legislative assembly of Haryana,” the statement said.It said thatthe Commission having considered these representations has decided to change thedate of poll only for Haryana from October 1 (Tuesday) to October 5 (Saturday).Similarly, the date for the counting of votes for Jammu and Kashmir has beenchanged from October 4 to October 8.“Date ofcompletion of elections for both J&K and Haryana will be October 10 ,” the statementsaid— (NVI)
