District Legal Services Authorities Srinagar and Budgam inaugurated two days Orientation Training Programme for Legal Service Unit for Persons with Mental Illness and Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (LSUM) for implementation of the NALSA Scheme 2024.
Srinagar, 31/12/2024: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Srinagar, in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority Budgam, organized a two-day orientation training programme for the members of the Legal Service Unit for Persons with Mental Illness and Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (LSUM). The event was held under the chairmanship of Mr. Jaffer Hussain Beg, Chairman DLSA Srinagar / Pr. District & Sessions Judge, Srinagar & Mr. Om Prakash Baghat, Chairman DLSA Budgam/ Pr. District & Sessions Judge, Budgam and under the supervision of Ms. Nusrat Ali Hakak, Civil Judge(Sr. Division)/Secretary, DLSA Srinagar/ DLSA Budgam. The initiative aims to enhance the understanding and implementation of the NALSA Scheme 2024.
The programme was inaugurated at the Meeting hall of District Court Complex, Srinagar, by Mr. Jaffer Beg, Chairman DLSA Srinagar / Pr. District & Sessions Judge, Srinagar, in the presence of the Secretary, DLSA Srinagar, and the LSUM members from both districts. The inaugural session highlighted the importance of the scheme in ensuring access to justice for individuals with mental and intellectual disabilities.
Ms. Masarat Shaheen, a retired judicial officer and the mentor and advisor of the committee, addressed the participants virtually. She emphasized the need for effective implementation of the scheme and provided valuable insights on the role of LSUMs in bridging the gap between the legal system and vulnerable individuals.
The Secretary, DLSA Srinagar, further elaborated on the objectives of the orientation programme, underscoring its importance in equipping the participants with the necessary knowledge and tools to implement the scheme effectively.
Advocate Naveed Gul, a member for Persons with Mental Illness and Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (LSUM) for implementation of the NALSA Scheme 2024, shared his practical experiences in the field, providing the participants with a firsthand perspective on handling cases related to mental and intellectual disabilities. Their insights underscored the commitment of the legal services authorities to the effective implementation of the scheme. Members of the DLSA Budgam for Persons with Mental Illness and Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (LSUM) for implementation of the NALSA Scheme 2024., joined through virtual mode and also shared their views and experiences. contributing to a broader understanding of the scheme’s objectives and implementation strategies.
The programme facilitated interactive discussions, enabling participants to exchange ideas and explore effective ways to achieve the goals of the NALSA Scheme 2024. The training session concluded on a productive note, with participants expressing confidence in their ability to implement the scheme in their respective jurisdictions.
The two-day orientation programme proved to be a significant step in fostering collaboration and understanding among stakeholders, ultimately aiming to ensure better legal aid and support for persons with mental and intellectual disabilities in the region.
