Sydney, Dec 15: (JKNN ) At least 16 people, including a child, were killed and around 40 others were hospitalised after a deadly shooting erupted at Sydney’s iconic Bondi Beach on Sunday during a Hanukkah celebration, authorities confirmed.
The incident took place at the Bondi Park Playground, where a community event titled “Chanukah by the Sea” was being held to mark the first day of Hanukkah, the eight-day Jewish festival of lights. Families, children, and members of the Jewish community had gathered at the venue when gunfire broke out, triggering panic and chaos.
Emergency services rushed to the scene within minutes, with multiple ambulances and police units deployed. Several victims sustained critical injuries and were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. The area was immediately cordoned off as police launched a large-scale security operation.
Sunday marked the beginning of Hanukkah, a festival symbolising faith, resilience, and hope. The attack has sent shockwaves across Australia and the global Jewish community, with leaders condemning the violence and expressing solidarity with the victims and their families.
