Congress Leader Debunks Claims of Gandhi Family Reaching Out to Azad

Srinagar, Aug 18, KNT: A top Congress leader categorically denied reports that the Gandhi family approached Ghulam Nabi Azad to rejoin the Congress Party, calling it an “absolute lie”. The leader accused Azad of trying to save face and claimed that his party leaders are spreading fake reports at his insistence.

The Congress leader disclosed to the news agency Kashmir News Trust that it was actually Azad who had approached senior Congress leaders, expressing his desire to rejoin the party. However, the Congress High Command outrightly rejected his request.

The leader emphasized that even if Azad were to rejoin the party, he would not receive preferential treatment. This statement suggests that the Congress Party is not keen on offering Azad a prominent role or special privileges if he returns.

This development comes as a significant blow to Azad’s efforts to rejoin the Congress Party, and it remains to be seen how his party, the Democratic Azad Party (DAP), will react to this public rebuke.

Yesterday, Azad’s lieutenant Taj Mohiuddin left his party and rejoined Congress.

Another Congress leader said that the party is not interested in Azad’s return. He said all those Congress leaders who had joined Azad have lost respect and credibility. (KNT)
