Collaborative Advocacy: Empowering Child Protection in Srinagar through Juvenile Justice Act 2015 and Mission Vatsalya Scheme

Sensitization Programme on Juvenile Justice Act 2015 and Mission Vatsalya Scheme

The District Child Protection Officer (DCPO) Srinagar, in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Srinagar, Department of Labour, Srinagar, and Department of Police, Srinagar, organized a Sensitization/Capacity Building Programme on the implementation of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection) Act 2015 and Mission Vatsalya Scheme. The event took place on February 17, 2024, at the ADR Centre, District Court Complex Mominabaad, Srinagar. The program aimed to enhance capacity for the effective implementation of Juvenile Justice Act 2015 and Child Labour Laws.

The main objective was to sensitize stakeholders, placement agencies, and representatives of NGOs about the specific needs and vulnerabilities of children in conflict with the law and children in need of care and protection.

Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, District Social Welfare Officer, highlighted the importance of the program, emphasizing the need to raise awareness about children’s rights and protection, particularly those in conflict with the law or in need of care and protection.

Mr. Jahangir Ahmed Bakshi, Secretary DLSA Srinagar, stressed the significance of inter-agency collaboration in ensuring children’s well-being and urged participants to work together to create a protective environment for children.

Ms. Syed Sleet Shah, DYSp Headquarter, Srinagar, emphasized the critical role of police in combating child trafficking and child labor and stressed the importance of addressing these crimes urgently.

Mr. Arshid Ahmed, Assistant Labour Commissioner, outlined initiatives aimed at preventing and addressing child labor, ensuring access to education and healthcare for all children, and urged participants to promote compliance with labor laws and protect children’s rights.

Ms. Nuzhat Un Nissa, CWC Member, highlighted the role of Child Welfare Committee in safeguarding children’s rights and emphasized the need for a multi-faceted approach involving law enforcement, prevention efforts, and community engagement.

Dr. Touseef, Chairman of Kashmir Concern (NGO), underscored the crucial role of NGOs in implementing child welfare legislatives and ensuring every child’s access to a safe and nurturing environment.

Participants appreciated the informative content of the program and pledged to utilize the acquired knowledge and skills in their daily work to promote children’s rights and well-being.

DCPO Srinagar and DLSA Srinagar expressed their commitment to continuing collaboration to strengthen child protection systems in the district and ensure every child’s opportunity to thrive in a safe and nurturing environment.
