Budgam, Dec 28, KNT: Serious concern has been expressed by inhabitants after children were seen climbing electricity transmission towers erected along the 220 kV Extra High Tension power line between Rathsun and Wagoora, exposing themselves to extreme and potentially fatal danger.
Locals said that people passing through the area can clearly see minors scaling tall metal towers carrying live high-voltage lines. They warned that such acts pose a grave risk, as even a minor slip or proximity to live conductors could result in instant electrocution or a fatal fall.
Inhabitants have urged the authorities to take immediate cognizance of the matter and initiate preventive measures. They stressed the need for fencing around tower bases, installation of warning signage, and regular awareness drives to educate children and parents about the dangers associated with high-tension power infrastructure.
Locals have also appealed to the Jammu and Kashmir Police to take strict legal action against those allowing or encouraging such dangerous behaviour. They said accountability under law would act as a deterrent and help prevent recurrence of similar incidents.
Locals warned that any untoward incident could cause irreparable loss and lifelong trauma for affected families, emphasizing that electricity transmission towers are hazardous installations and must never be treated as places for play or adventure. [KNT]
