Bullet in son’s head, shell-shocked father prays for son’s recovery besides ICU bed in SKIMS, Soura
Masroor was attacked while playing cricket at Eidgah grounds on Sunday; Keeping close watch on his vitals, his condition continues to be critical, say Hospital sources

Srinagar, Oct 30 (KNO): Lying flat on a bed in a highly sensitive Intensive Care Unit (ICU), of SKIMS, Soura, a young and dedicated police officer is battling for life with a bullet in his head.
Inspector Masroor Ahmed Wani, a resident of Eidgah, Narwara Yechpora, posted in Srinagar District Police Lines (DPL) was shot at when he was playing with officials at Eidgah playground. Masroor has a wife and a little daughter back home.
Besides the bed on which young Masroor is lying, his father is shell-shocked, not able to talk. “He won’t talk as he is in shock as the condition of his son continues to be critical,” a relative of Masroor told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO). “Masroor’s father is praying to the Almighty for his son’s recovery. Other family members too pray for Masroor’s fast recovery.”
The officer was relishing a rare moment of relaxation while engaging in a cricket match with friends and fellow officers on a sunny Sunday afternoon, as the joyous atmosphere abruptly turned into a scene of horror when a sudden burst of gunfire rang out, leaving Masroor wounded seriously.
Locals of the area which describing the terrifying moment told KNO that chaos erupted on the cricket field as the officer was running between the wickets and removing his glove, when suddenly a volley of bullets was sprayed across the ground, hitting him in the line of duty, as the rapid response of his colleagues and friends saved his life as they rushed him to a nearby hospital in a desperate bid to stabilize him.
As news of the incident spread, the local community expressed their shock and sympathy for the officer and his family.
Meanwhile, hospital sources also told KNO that the condition of Inspector Masroor is critical and he has a bullet injury in his head, while he is being observed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of SKIMS Soura. “He is under constant observation and we are hopeful about his recovery,” the sources said. “His vitals haven’t deteriorated further.”
Similarly, the police have taken cognizance of the incident, while the investigation is ongoing. “As a fallout from yesterday’s incident, security has been beefed up with frisking in Srinagar city, the establishment of mobile check-posts, and thorough checking of vehicles and individuals at different places in Srinagar—(KNO)
