Pistol bullet from service weapon injures RPF constable in Kathua

Kathua, Jan 4, KNT: A Railway Protection Force constable was injured after a bullet from his own service pistol allegedly struck his left shoulder near Railway Station Kathua late Saturday night, officials said.
The injured personnel has been identified as Dinesh Kumar, a resident of Heera Nagar. According to officials, the incident occurred during the night hours under circumstances that are presently under investigation.
Soon after the incident, the injured constable was rushed to Government Medical College Kathua for immediate medical attention. Due to the nature of the injury, doctors referred him to Government Medical College Jammu for specialized treatment. Hospital sources said his condition is stable and he is undergoing further medical evaluation.
Senior officials of the Railway Protection Force and local police reached the spot and collected preliminary evidence. A detailed investigation has been initiated to ascertain how the firearm discharged and whether the injury was accidental or occurred due to any other factor.
A case has been registered in this regard.[KNT]
