Birla Open Minds International School Hosts Two-Day South Kashmir Pencak Silat Championship 2024-25

Pampore, August 22, 2024 – The two-day South Kashmir Pencak Silat Championship 2024-25 kicked off on Thursday at Birla Open Minds International School (BOMIS), Pampore, with an enthusiastic display of traditional martial arts. The event was inaugurated by the chief guest, National Conference Youth President Salman Sagar, who highlighted the significance of promoting sports in the region.

The championship, organized by the Pencak Silat Association Pulwama, has drawn participation from around 400 players, each demonstrating their skills and commitment to this ancient Indonesian martial art. The large turnout reflects the growing interest in Pencak Silat and the emphasis on physical fitness and discipline among the youth of South Kashmir.

In her welcoming address, Dr. Mehnaz Rehman, Principal of BOMIS Pampore, expressed her full support for the promotion of sports in educational institutions, underscoring the importance of such events in nurturing young talent. She extended a warm welcome to all the guests and participants, praising their dedication to sportsmanship and excellence.

The event was graced by several dignitaries, including the CEO of the Indian Pencak Silat Federation (IPSF), Police Coach Rayees Ahmad, General Secretary of IPSF Tariq Ahmad Zargar, ZPEO Pampore Masrat Hussain Andrabi, and the head coach of the Pencak Silat Association, Sajad Ahmad Bhat. Shah Younis and other association members were also present, lending their support to the championship.

The championship serves not only as a platform for showcasing martial arts talent but also as a means to foster camaraderie and sportsmanship among the youth. It reflects the commitment of the organizers and participants to preserve and promote the cultural heritage of Pencak Silat while encouraging physical and mental well-being.

As the two-day event progresses, the participants are set to compete in various categories, displaying their prowess and determination to excel in the sport. The championship is expected to conclude on a high note, with winners being celebrated for their achievements and contributions to the martial arts community in South Kashmir.
