Birla Open Minds International School Hosts 1-Day Coaching Camp on Pelota Vasca

Pampore, June 03, 2024 – (JKNN) The Birla Open Minds International School in Pampore was abuzz with excitement as it hosted a one-day coaching camp on Pelota Vasca, organized jointly by the Federation Internationale de Pelota Vasca (FIPV) and the Indian Pelota Vasca Federation (IPVF). This initiative aimed to introduce and promote the traditional Basque sport to the students and sports enthusiasts in the region.

The event was graced by esteemed educators and coaches from around the globe. Leading the camp were Mr. Inaki Barbajero from Spain and Mr. Esteban Zarabozo from Argentina, both distinguished educators affiliated with the FIPV. They brought with them a wealth of knowledge and experience, promising an enriching session for all participants.

In her welcoming speech, Dr. Mehnaz Rehman, Principal of Birla Open Minds International School, expressed her enthusiasm and gratitude for the opportunity to host such a prestigious event. “We are honored to have such distinguished guests and educators at our school. This camp not only provides our students with a unique opportunity to learn a new sport but also fosters international collaboration and cultural exchange,” she remarked.

The camp also featured local expertise with Mr. Mohammad Iqbal and Mr. Irfan Aziz Botta, both respected coaches in the sport. Their involvement ensured that the nuances of Pelota Vasca were effectively communicated to the participants.

Secretary General of the IPVF, Ms. Khyati Ben Gamit, highlighted the significance of the event in her address. “This coaching camp is a step towards nurturing future talent in Pelota Vasca within India. By collaborating with international experts, we aim to elevate the standard of the sport and inspire more youth to take up Pelota Vasca,” she said.

Throughout the day, students engaged in various drills and exercises designed to build foundational skills in Pelota Vasca. The hands-on training sessions provided a comprehensive introduction to the sport, focusing on techniques, rules, and the cultural heritage of Pelota Vasca.
