Baramulla Police Take Stringent Action Against Illegal Mineral Extraction and Transportation, 297 Arrested Since January 2024
05/08/2024 (JKNN) In a significant crackdown on illegal mineral extraction and transportation, the Baramulla Police have registered 179 cases and arrested 297 individuals since January 2024.
This initiative is part of the authorities’ ongoing efforts to combat the unlawful activities that threaten the region’s natural resources and environmental integrity.
The police action comes in response to increasing concerns over the rampant illegal mining operations that have been reported in various parts of the district.
The extracted minerals, primarily sand and gravel, are often transported without proper permits, leading to severe environmental degradation and loss of revenue for the state.
To reinforce their commitment to curbing these illegal practices, the Baramulla Police have launched a series of operations that target the key areas known for mineral extraction. During these operations, law enforcement officials have seized 297 vehicles involved in the illegal transport of minerals.
The confiscated vehicles include 128 tippers, 161 tractors, and 8 excavators, all of which were found to be operating without the necessary licenses and permits.
Local authorities have emphasized the importance of adhering to regulations that govern mineral extraction and transportation, stating that these measures are essential to protect the environment and ensure sustainable development in the region. The Baramulla Police have urged the public to report any suspicious activities related to illegal mining, reinforcing the notion that community involvement is crucial in the fight against environmental crimes. As the police continue their efforts, they are also conducting awareness campaigns to educate the community about the legal requirements for mineral extraction and the potential consequences of engaging in illegal activities. With these proactive measures, the Baramulla Police aim to create a safer and more sustainable environment for the residents of the district.
