05/08/2024 (JKNN) In a significant crackdown on illegal mineral extraction and transportation, the Baramulla Police have registered 179 cases and arrested 297 individuals since January 2024.

This initiative is part of the authorities’ ongoing efforts to combat the unlawful activities that threaten the region’s natural resources and environmental integrity.

The police action comes in response to increasing concerns over the rampant illegal mining operations that have been reported in various parts of the district.

The extracted minerals, primarily sand and gravel, are often transported without proper permits, leading to severe environmental degradation and loss of revenue for the state.

To reinforce their commitment to curbing these illegal practices, the Baramulla Police have launched a series of operations that target the key areas known for mineral extraction. During these operations, law enforcement officials have seized 297 vehicles involved in the illegal transport of minerals.

The confiscated vehicles include 128 tippers, 161 tractors, and 8 excavators, all of which were found to be operating without the necessary licenses and permits.
