Bandipora admin directs all gun-licence-holders to deposit weapons in nearest police stations within one week

Srinagar, Mar 17 (KS): As the schedule for the Lok Sabha goes public, the Bandipora district administration has asked all the civilian and forces personnel, retired as well as serving, to deposit the licensed arms and ammunition at the nearest police station within a week.

The directions were passed by District Magistrate Shakeel-ur-Rehman, who is ex officio District Electoral Officer.

The DEO besides asking for deposition of weapons, has also directed all the printing presses, operating within his jurisdiction, to clearly indicate in the ‘printline’ the names and addresses of the printer and publisher of any election pamphlets or posters.

“These printing presses shall also send the copies of the printed material (alongwith three extra copies of each such printed material) and the declaration obtained from the publisher as required under Section 127 A(2), to this office, within three days of its printing,” reads an order, a copy of which lies with news agency Kashmir Scroll.

The administration has warned the printing press owners/operators against any violation of the provisions of section 127 A of Representation of People’s Act, 1951 and the instructions of Election Commission of India, underling that the same would be viewed “very seriously” which may in appropriate-cases include even the revocation of the licence of the printing press.

Notably, Jammu and Kashmir will undergo polls in five phases with Kathua in Phase-I on 19 April, Jammu in Phase-II on 26 April, Anantnag in Phase-III on 7 May, Srinagar in Phase-IV on 13 May and Baramulla in Phase-V on 26 May. (KS)
