Awareness programs on Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (POSH Act-2013) held at GGHSS Nowhatta
SRINAGAR, JUNE 27: (JKNN) The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Srinagar in collaboration with School Education Department today organized an awareness programs on Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) also known as POSH Act 2013 at Government Girls Higher Secondary School (GGHSS) Nowhatta Srinagar.
The awareness programme was held under the guidance of Jawad Ahmed, Chairman of DLSA Srinagar (PDJ, Srinagar), aimed to educate students, teachers, and staff members about the provisions and importance of the POSH Act 2013.
The program was attended by the principal, staff members of the Govt. Girls Higher Secondary School Nowhatta Srinagar, officials, panel lawyers and para-legal volunteers of the DLSA, Srinagar besides the students enthusiastically participated in the programme.
Sunila (JLA) and Adv. Suhaila Ali Panel Lawyer of DLSA Srinagar highlighted the key aspects of the Act, including the definition of sexual harassment, the complaint mechanism, and the role of the Internal Complaints Committee.
They also emphasized that The POSH Act 2013 is a significant legislation that aims to protect women from sexual harassment at the workplace. It is essential for all institutions, including educational institutions, to have a robust mechanism in place to prevent and address sexual harassment.
“We must work together to create a culture of respect and dignity, where women feel safe and empowered to report any incidents of harassment,” they added.
The program was well-received by the students and teachers, who actively participated in the discussion and asked questions to clarify their doubts.
The awareness program was an initiative to promote a culture of respect and equality in educational institutions and workplaces, and to empower women to report any instances of
harassment. The program also aimed to sensitize the participants about their rights and responsibilities under the POSH Act 2013.
