Apni Party Opposes STP at Playground, Bukhari Warns of Legal Action
Srinagar, April 2, KNT: Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party President Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari on Thursday opposed the proposed establishment of a Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) at a playground in Rawalpora Srinagar, saying the party would not allow diversion of land used by youth for sports and recreational activities.
Speaking to reporters after visiting the area and interacting with residents, Bukhari alleged that attempts were being made to deprive youth of open spaces.
“We will not allow anyone to snatch playgrounds from youth or set up an STP at a ground used for recreational activities,” he said.
The issue assumes significance amid growing concerns over shrinking public spaces in urban Srinagar, particularly in densely populated areas such as Chananpora.
Bukhari alleged that there were elements trying to push youth away from sports.
“There is a conspiracy against the people of this constituency. Some elements do not want youth to engage in sports,” he said.
He said the Apni Party would resist the move and, if required, approach the courts.
“We will take up the issue with the Chief Minister and explore legal options if necessary,” he added. [KNT]
