ASI Held Red-Handed in ₹8,000 Bribery Case by ACB
Srinagar, Feb 13, KNT: The Anti-Corruption Bureau has arrested an Assistant Sub-Inspector posted as Investigating Officer in a case registered at Police Station Bemina after he was allegedly caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹8,000.
ACB in a statement said that it received a written complaint alleging that Mukhtar Ahmad Khan, Assistant Sub-Inspector and inhabitant of Newa Pulwama, had demanded illegal gratification from the complainant in connection with FIR No. 88/2025 of Police Station Bemina. The complainant alleged that despite the case having already been challaned before the competent court, the officer demanded money and threatened harassment if the demand was not met.
Following receipt of the complaint, the bureau conducted discreet verification which prima facie substantiated the allegations. Subsequently, FIR No. 04/2026 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 was registered at Police Station ACB Srinagar and investigation was initiated.
During the investigation, a trap team was constituted. ACB said the team laid a successful trap and apprehended the accused officer while he was demanding and accepting ₹8,000 from the complainant. The bribe amount was recovered on the spot in the presence of independent witnesses.
The accused has been taken into custody and further investigation is underway. [KNT]
