Ahead of Swearing-in Ceremony, J&K CM-designate Omar Abdullah Offers Fatiha Khawani at Mazarat-e-Anwar in Srinagar
Srinagar 16/10/2024: In a significant and heartfelt gesture before his swearing-in ceremony as the next Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah paid respects at the Mazarat-e-Anwar of his grandfather, Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Abdullah, and his grandmother, Begum Akbar Jehan (Madar-e-Meharban). The solemn prayers were offered at the Qaid Mazar in Naseem Bagh, Srinagar, a revered resting place that holds deep emotional and historical significance for the Abdullah family.Omar Abdullah, set to take over the reins of the state, visited the mausoleum to perform Fatiha Khawani (special prayers for the deceased), a religious tradition to seek blessings and peace for the departed souls. This act was seen as both a personal tribute to his family’s political legacy and a gesture of respect for the influential role both Sher-e-Kashmir and Madar-e-Meharban played in shaping the political landscape of Jammu and Kashmir.The Mazarat-e-Anwar at Qaid Mazar, located amidst the serene surroundings of Naseem Bagh, is a place of pilgrimage for many who revere the memory of Sheikh Abdullah, a towering figure in Kashmir’s political history who was instrumental in defining the region’s relationship with the rest of India. His wife, Begum Akbar Jehan, also known as Madar-e-Meharban (the benevolent mother), was a key figure in advocating for women’s rights and social welfare in the state.As Omar Abdullah prepares to assume leadership, this visit underscores his connection to the values and vision of his forebears, as well as the weight of responsibility he carries in continuing their work. The prayers at the mausoleum come just ahead of his swearing-in ceremony, marking a moment of reflection and reverence before stepping into the role of Jammu and Kashmir’s Chief Minister once again.
