Srinagar 16/10/2024: In a significant and heartfelt gesture before his swearing-in ceremony as the next Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah paid respects at the Mazarat-e-Anwar of his grandfather, Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Abdullah, and his grandmother, Begum Akbar Jehan (Madar-e-Meharban). The solemn prayers were offered at the Qaid Mazar in Naseem Bagh, Srinagar, a revered resting place that holds deep emotional and historical significance for the Abdullah family.Omar Abdullah, set to take over the reins of the state, visited the mausoleum to perform Fatiha Khawani (special prayers for the deceased), a religious tradition to seek blessings and peace for the departed souls. His wife, Begum Akbar Jehan, also known as Madar-e-Meharban (the benevolent mother), was a key figure in advocating for women’s rights and social welfare in the state.As Omar Abdullah prepares to assume leadership, this visit underscores his connection to the values and vision of his forebears, as well as the weight of responsibility he carries in continuing their work.
