Afghanistan vs South Africa, Champions Trophy 2025: SA Beat AFG by 107 Runs in Karachi

Karachi, February 22, 2025 – (JKNN) South Africa secured a commanding 107-run victory over Afghanistan in the third match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 at the National Stadium in Karachi. Ryan Rickelton’s century and Kagiso Rabada’s three-wicket haul were the standout performances as South Africa dominated both with the bat and the ball.

South Africa Sets a Strong Target

Winning the toss, South African skipper Temba Bavuma elected to bat first. The Proteas capitalized on the decision, posting an imposing total of 315/6 in their 50 overs. Ryan Rickelton led the charge with a superb century, while Bavuma, Rassie van der Dussen, and Aiden Markram contributed with half-centuries, ensuring a solid foundation for the innings.

Afghanistan’s bowlers had moments of brilliance but failed to maintain pressure throughout the innings. Despite their efforts, South Africa’s batting depth proved too strong, with quick partnerships propelling them past the 300-run mark.

Afghanistan Falters in Chase

In response, Afghanistan struggled to build momentum against a disciplined South African bowling attack. Wickets fell at regular intervals, preventing any substantial partnerships. Rahmat Shah fought valiantly, scoring 90 runs, but lacked the necessary support from his teammates to chase down the daunting target.

Kagiso Rabada was the pick of the South African bowlers, claiming three crucial wickets to derail Afghanistan’s innings. The Proteas’ bowlers maintained tight lines and executed their plans effectively, wrapping up Afghanistan’s innings well short of the target.

With this win, South Africa has made a strong statement in the Champions Trophy 2025, while Afghanistan will need to regroup and improve in their upcoming matches.
