Afghanistan Claim Indian Passenger Plane Crash In Badakhshan; GoI Says Route Not Of Indian Aircrafts

Afghanistan’s provincial regime and local police have claimed that a plane originating from India en route to Moscow crashed in the Wakhan region of Badakhshan. The head of information and culture for the Taliban in Badakhshan said that the passenger plane went down in Topkhaneh Mountain, spanning the districts of Karan, Manjan, and Zibak within the province.

The Taliban’s police command in Badakhshan has stated that the plane, which vanished from radar the night before, crashed in the high mountains of the Topkhana area. This region encompasses the Zibak and Keran o Munjan districts of the province, reported Afghan’s AMU TV.

However, now the Indian government sources have issued a clarification on the issue. They said that the route is never taken by the Indian aircrafts and thus the plane is not Indian. “This is not an Indian plane. A plane that crashed in the mountains of Topkhana alongside the districts of Kuran-Munjan and Zibak of Badakhshan province, was Moroccan registered DF 10 aircraft,” said a senior Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) official.

The Indian government had earlier dispatched a team to verify the details. Reports suggest that there may be casualties. While the aircraft is said to be a passenger carrier, the number of passengers onboard remain unknown at this time. ZN
