Budgam, Feb 14 (KNO): Residents of Brenjan Chadoora in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district held a protest against the PDD department, accusing them of disconnecting electricity to two transformers, supplying power to at least 100 households.
As per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the protesting residents alleged that PDD officials have disconnected electricity to all households relying on two transformers.
Bashir Ahmad, a local resident during the protest said that they live in a backward area where earnings are limited, despite that they pay the bill on time, yet electricity wires have been erected on trees and gates instead of poles.
“Despite these challenges, the majority of the residents have paid their bills, still PDD officials disconnected electricity to all the consumers,” he said.
Another protester said that, it’s true that some villagers are not paying tariffs on time, but the others who have cleared their bills shouldn’t be forced to face hardships. “More than 60% people have already paid their electricity bills but the officials of PDD didn’t bother to think about them and disconnected the electricity to all,” he added.
Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) Power Development Department (PDD), said that a huge amount of Rs 30 lakh are outstanding from the households, who rely on these two transformers and had not paid their electricity bills.
“The transformers were turned off only, but later the residents didn’t allow the officials to turn it on,” he said—(KNO)
