Around 70 people lost their lives when a magnitude 6.4 earthquake struck a remote area of Nepal late on Friday, as reported by authorities. They anticipate that the death toll may rise. Local residents were captured on film during the dark night, desperately sifting through debris, seeking survivors amidst the ruins of collapsed residences and structures.
Numerous houses either crumbled or suffered damage, leaving survivors huddled outside, gripped by fear and surrounded by the wailing sirens of emergency services. The earthquake’s tremors were even felt in New Delhi, nearly 500 kilometers away.
Nepal’s Prime Minister, Pushpa Kamal Dahal, extended his heartfelt condolences for the tragic loss of life and the extensive damage to infrastructure caused by the earthquake.
“The Honorable Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, known as ‘Prachanda,’ has expressed deep sorrow for the human and material losses resulting from the earthquake that struck Ramidanda in Jajarkot at 11:47 on Friday night and has mobilized all three security agencies for the immediate rescue and relief of the injured,” as posted by the Nepal Prime Minister’s Office.
