Drug Control Department Anantnag Suspends Operations of Three Medical Shops Over Record-Keeping Violations
More Than 14 Surprise Inspections Conducted Across District; Five Drug Samples Lifted for Laboratory Analysis
Anantnag, August 29 (KNC): The Drug Control Department Anantnag has intensified its enforcement drive against violations of drug control regulations, conducting more than 14 surprise inspections at various medical establishments across the district, including Batengoop, Mattan and other areas.
The inspection drive was aimed at ensuring strict compliance with statutory requirements governing the sale, storage and distribution of medicines, besides checking the maintenance of mandatory records by drug retailers.
During the inspections, officials thoroughly scrutinised the availability of medicines, statutory registers, purchase and sale records and other relevant documentation, with particular focus on medicines having addiction liability, which are subject to stringent regulatory requirements.
As part of the enforcement action, the operation of Mushtaq Medical Store and Zahid Amin Medical Store, both located at Batengoop, was suspended on the spot after officials detected discrepancies in the maintenance of records pertaining to medicines having addiction liability.
In another action, the operation of Amreen Pharma at Trahpoo, Achabal, was also closed/suspended after violations were detected during the inspection process.
The department initiated action against the establishments after finding deficiencies in record keeping and documentation, stressing that proper maintenance of records relating to medicines carrying addiction liability is mandatory under the applicable drug control regulations.
Meanwhile, in a separate quality-control measure, officials lifted five drug samples of different categories of medicines from Cooperative Fair Price, Mattan. The samples have been forwarded for detailed laboratory analysis to ascertain their quality and conformity with the prescribed standards.
The inspection drive forms part of the department’s ongoing efforts to strengthen regulatory oversight and prevent violations in the pharmaceutical trade across Anantnag district.
Officials said that inspections of medical establishments will continue at regular intervals and that strict action will be taken against establishments found violating the provisions governing the sale, storage and distribution of medicines.
The Drug Control Department has also advised all licensed drug retailers to maintain accurate, updated and verifiable purchase and sale records, particularly in respect of medicines having addiction liability, and to ensure strict compliance with all statutory requirements.
The department reiterated that adherence to drug laws and proper record maintenance are essential for preventing misuse of medicines and ensuring that pharmaceutical products are supplied through regulated channels.(KNC)
