US Ambassador Sergio Gor to Visit Kashmir Today; Meetings with LG Sinha, CM Omar Abdullah Expected
SRINAGAR, AUGUST 19 (KNC): United States Ambassador to India and Special Envoy for South and Central Asia Sergio Gor is scheduled to arrive in Kashmir on Wednesday, marking his maiden visit to Jammu and Kashmir since assuming office earlier this year.
According to official sources, Ambassador Gor is expected to land in Srinagar on Wednesday afternoon. During his stay, he is likely to hold meetings with Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
Sources said the US Ambassador is scheduled to stay overnight in Srinagar before proceeding to Ladakh on Thursday.
The visit assumes significance as it will be Ambassador Gor’s first visit to Jammu and Kashmir after he formally assumed charge as the 27th United States Ambassador to India on January 14, 2026.
While his official programme is expected to include engagements with the top leadership of Jammu and Kashmir, there is no official confirmation so far regarding meetings with political leaders, business representatives, civil society members or officials from the security establishment.
Ambassador Gor’s visit comes against the backdrop of Jammu and Kashmir’s evolving political and administrative landscape, following the constitutional changes of 2019 and the subsequent formation of an elected government in the Union Territory.
The visit is being closely watched in diplomatic and political circles, particularly in view of the United States’ wider engagement with India and its broader strategic interests in the South and Central Asian region.
Officials have so far not released details of the Ambassador’s specific engagements, meeting schedule or other programmes during his stay in Kashmir.
Further details regarding his visit are expected to emerge following his arrival in Srinagar.(KNC)
