FIR Against Iltija Mufti a ‘Fixed Match’ to Revive PDP’s Credibility, Says Omar Abdullah
Jammu, August 7, KNT: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday dismissed the police case registered against PDP leader Iltija Mufti, alleging that the episode appeared to be a “fixed match” aimed at restoring the political credibility of the People’s Democratic Party.
Responding to questions from reporters, Omar claimed that the PDP had historically benefited from what he described as the support of “agencies” whenever its public standing declined.
“This looks like a fixed match to revive the credibility of the PDP. Whenever the party loses credibility, efforts are made to create such drama to bring it back into the political discourse,” he said.
The Chief Minister also questioned the police allegation that Iltija Mufti had bitten a police officer during the protest in Srinagar earlier this week.
“Iltija Mufti is not a five-year-old child who would bite someone. In fact, even a child would not normally do such a thing. It is difficult to believe this version,” Omar said.
His remarks came a day after Srinagar Police registered an FIR against Iltija Mufti, alleging that she assaulted and bit a police officer during a PDP protest against the abrogation of Article 370. Police have summoned her to join the investigation, while the PDP has rejected the allegations and accused the police of using excessive force against its workers.
The investigation into the incident is underway. [KNT]
