Shopian Police Register Two FIRs Against Wedding Organisers for Violating Firecracker Ban
Strict Enforcement of District Magistrate’s Prohibitory Orders; Police Warn of Legal Action Against All Violators
Shopian, Aug 6 (KNC): In a strict enforcement drive against violations of prohibitory orders, Shopian Police have registered two First Information Reports (FIRs) against organisers of separate wedding functions for allegedly bursting firecrackers in violation of the District Magistrate, Shopian’s ban, warning that stringent legal action will continue against anyone found defying the restrictions.
According to information available with the Kashmir News Corner (KNC), the police registered FIR No. 148/2026 and FIR No. 151/2026 at Police Station Shopian following separate incidents in which firecrackers were allegedly burst during marriage celebrations despite an official prohibition.
Police officials stated that the violations occurred notwithstanding repeated public advisories and the promulgation of prohibitory orders by the District Magistrate banning the use of firecrackers in the district. The authorities observed that the restrictions were imposed in the larger public interest and are required to be followed by all citizens without exception.
Following the incidents, criminal cases were registered under the relevant provisions of law, and investigations have been initiated to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the violations and identify all persons responsible.
Reiterating its commitment to the strict implementation of the prohibitory orders, Shopian Police warned that any individual found violating the ban on firecrackers or disobeying lawful orders issued by the competent authority shall face appropriate legal proceedings in accordance with the law.
The police also appealed to the general public, wedding organisers, and event managers to cooperate with the civil administration and law enforcement agencies by strictly complying with the restrictions and ensuring that all social, religious, and public functions are conducted in a lawful, peaceful, and responsible manner.
Shopian Police further urged citizens to respect the prohibitory orders and contribute towards maintaining public order, safety, and environmental protection by refraining from the use of banned firecrackers during celebrations. (KNC)
