Srinagar, Mar 14 : The Meteorological Department has predicted light to moderate rain and snowfall across Jammu and Kashmir till March 16 and improvement thereafter, advising caution for travelers and farmers.

Jammu and Kashmir has been witnessing rainfall in plains and snowfall in higher reaches for the past one week, affecting normal life and road connectivity in several areas.

As per news agency JKNS reports indicate that Snowfall was reported from Peer Ki Gali, Sonamarg, Zojila Pass, Gulmarg, and other higher reaches, adding to the winter-like conditions across Jammu and Kashmir.

Meteorological director Dr Mukhtar Ahmad as per news agency JKNS said, intermittent spells of rain and snow are expected at most places on March 14 and 15, particularly over higher reaches.

On March 16, light rain or snow may occur at a few places in the morning, with gradual improvement by afternoon, Mukhtar said.

From March 17 to 24, the weather is likely to remain generally dry, though cloudiness is expected on March 19, he added.

The department has issued an advisory, urging travelers, tourists, and transporters to follow administrative and traffic advisories due to the risk of landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones in vulnerable areas.

Farmers have been advised to suspend farming operations till March 16 to prevent losses due to wet conditions, advisory reads.

Authorities have also warned residents in avalanche-prone areas to exercise caution as fresh snowfall could increase the risk of avalanches and landslides in hilly terrains.

Road connectivity to various higher reaches remains affected, with intermittent disruptions reported on several highways.

Meanwhile, officials said that efforts are underway to clear snow and restore traffic in affected areas. The situation is being closely monitored, and further updates will be issued based on weather developments. (JKNS)
