Srinagar, June 26(GNS):The 10th of Muharram, Youm-e-Ashura, concluded peacefully across Kashmir on Friday, with thousands of Shia mourners taking out traditional mourning processions.

Reports reaching GNS said that the big procession at Zadibal, held traditionally, witnessed a large turnout as mourners recited elegies and paid tribute to Imam Hussain and his companions in Karbala.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha joined the Ashura procession at Zadibal and offered a Chaddar to Zuljinah, the symbolic horse of Imam Hussain.
Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah accompanied by Tanveer Sadiq and Nasir Aslam also visited Zadibal Imambara on the solemn occasion, joining mourners in paying tribute to the supreme sacrifice of Imam Hussain (AS). Officials described the day as one of remembrance, unity, and reflection.

Elaborate security arrangements were put in place to ensure the day’s religious observances passed without incident. Traffic police enforced diversions on key routes in Srinagar, including around Zadibal and other procession paths, to regulate vehicular movement.

Authorities also managed procession routes and arranged public amenities including medical aid camps, drinking water stations, and sanitation facilities at key points.

Officials said coordination between the administration, police, and community volunteers helped maintain order and dignity during the observances. The day ended peacefully across the Valley.(GNS)
